This initiative aims to advance the cross-domain application of the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) for the Semiconductor industry across discrete and process-oriented manufacturing. The hub connects academic excellence and industrial practice, focusing on research, education, and demonstrators that bring AAS into real operational use.

A central objective is the strengthening of research–industry collaboration at national and international levels, enhancing the practical impact of AAS. Our mission is to make AAS tangible, transferable, and scalable — strengthening the regional innovation ecosystem and supporting companies in adopting or transitioning to AAS-based solutions.

Our initiative combines expertise in AAS with knowledge from semiconductor manufacturing, making it directly accessible and applicable for companies, research partners, and students. We offer:

AAS Education

We prepare students for the practical application of the Asset Administration Shell and combine scientific principles with industrial applications, e.g., in the context of cooperative theses with industry partners.

Public Demonstrators

Our interactive demonstrators showcase practice-oriented implementations, integration concepts, and added value for industrial use cases.

Workshops

In workshops, we work together to identify and prioritize practical use cases for AAS solutions and develop concrete implementation scenarios – from feasibility studies and prototype design to implementation guidelines.

Joint Projects

As part of national and international research projects, we work with partners to develop innovative solutions, combining scientific excellence with industrial applicability.

Showcase HTWD

HTWD – IIoT Test Bed

The test environment features a discrete manufacturing process and all typical industrial components. It was designed to realistically simulate complex manufacturing and logistics processes, such as those found in semiconductor manufacturing.

In addition to tasks in research and development, the IIoT Test Bed serves as both a demonstrational and informational platform. In a free guided tour, we will inform you about current research projects and use practical demonstrations to show you the application of the Asset Administration Shell in combination with other key Industry 4.0 technologies.

TUD – P2O-Lab

The Process-to-Order (P2O) Lab tackles the current challenges facing the process industry as a result of individualization, globalization and urbanization.

Building on solution approaches from the areas of modularization and digitization and artificial intelligence, the P2O-Lab investigates the next steps to serve highly variable markets with almost binary product life cycles.

With our background and network in the creation of solution concepts in process industries, the P2O-Lab researches four AAS use cases:

  • PEA-Engineering
  • Modular Plant Systems Engineering
  • Modular Plant Operations
  • AI Applications

The goal is a suitable process directly from the product order, acting as a supplier, and for ideal integration of the products into downstream value chains such as in the semiconductor industry.
